Futurice partners with UpCloud to accelerate European data sovereignty for clients

Futurice has announced a new partnership with leading European cloud provider UpCloud to strengthen European clients’ ability to build, scale, and innovate securely on EU-based infrastructure. Through this partnership, Futurice will provide consulting, architecture design, and migration services to help organizations expand to UpCloud’s sovereign cloud platform.

The collaboration responds to a growing demand among European enterprises for true data sovereignty, ensuring data is governed exclusively by EU laws and remains protected from extraterritorial access. Futurice’s consulting and development services will support clients in evaluating their cloud architectures, executing smooth migrations, and optimizing workloads for performance, cost efficiency, and compliance within UpCloud’s European infrastructure.

“Many organizations are rethinking their cloud strategies in light of legal, operational, and geopolitical risks associated with non-EU hyperscalers,” says Michael Samarin, VP, Head of Cloud & Partnerships at Futurice. “By partnering with UpCloud, we can offer our clients a truly European choice, one that combines legal certainty, transparency, and technical excellence. Together, we help enterprises future-proof their digital operations in a rapidly shifting regulatory landscape.”

UpCloud, headquartered in Finland, operates independently within EU jurisdiction, ensuring that customer data remains fully within the EU and subject only to EU regulations. This partnership complements Futurice’s cloud-agnostic approach, giving clients greater freedom to choose the right architecture for each workload, from public to sovereign, from hyperscaler to hybrid.

“This partnership directly addresses the growing demand for European, sovereign cloud services,” says Arno Schäfer, CEO of UpCloud. “Together with Futurice, we are able to provide solutions that ensure even the most sensitive national data remains secure and can be served locally. I am proud to say that through this collaboration, we can deliver exceptional services for regulated industries, the public sector, and any organization prioritizing digital sovereignty.”

Futurice’s Sovereign Cloud consulting services include data and workload classification, sovereignty architecture design, and seamless migration planning, all guided by the principle of minimizing legal exposure while maintaining agility and innovation. This partnership reinforces both companies’ shared mission: strengthening Europe’s digital resilience and competitiveness through sovereign and sustainable cloud solutions.
